Q: When I try to log in to Key Online I receive a message saying, "Unconfirmed account. Please check your email for confirmation link or contact support@keypress.com." What should I do?A: When you create a Key Online account, we send you an email to confirm your account. First, check to see if you have received an email with a subject line of "Key Online Account Confirmation — Action Required." Open this email and follow the instructions to confirm your account. If you do not receive this confirmation email within a few moments of registering, please contact us so that we can manually confirm your account. Q: Why have I not received email I am expecting from Key Online?A: If you are not receiving email from Key Online, one possible explanation is that perhaps an overly aggressive email spam filtering system at your organization is preventing these emails from getting to you. From time to time, and particularly during your initial registration for Key Online and its various services, Key Online will need to send you email. To make sure that you can receive email from Key Online, it is important to verify that the email system at your organization is set up correctly. Contact the technology administrator at your organization and ask to have email coming from the Internet domain "keypress.com" added to a white-list of Internet domains to prevent them from being suppressed. If the program you use to read email has a junk-mail filter, make sure to create a junk-mail filter rule that allows mail from "keypress.com" to properly land in your email inbox. Q: What is patty paper? Where do I get it?A: A patty paper is a square piece of translucent paper, similar to tracing paper, which is used to separate hamburger patties in restaurants. It’s an excellent tool for exploring geometry with a hands-on, tactile approach—it’s manufactured in perfect squares; it’s easy to write on; and it’s easy to see creases and traces on. You can buy a box of 1000 sheets for less than $7 from Key Curriculum Press. Q: How do students access Dynamic Explorations? This symbol Q: What are the system requirements and which browser do you recommend?A: To use Sketchpad LessonLink, you will need an Internet connection, a modern web browser with JavaScript turned on, and Adobe Flash Player 9.x or higher installed. Additionally, you will also need The Geometer’s Sketchpad installed to open sketches. The following browsers are supported with the use of Sketchpad LessonLink:
Sketchpad LessonLink does not support IE 5.x on Macintosh or PC. Q: Why does clicking the Launch button just scroll the page to the top instead of launching Sketchpad LessonLink?A: You may not be logged in to Key Online. Click the Logout button and enter your login credentials again. Q: Which websites must my school network allow access to for me to use Sketchpad LessonLink?A: If your school blocks teacher and student access to the following websites, you may have difficulty using Sketchpad LessonLink: http://sll.keypress.com., www.keypress.com, www.keymath.com, and www.screencast.com (for Tip Video access). Q: Why are Sketchpad LessonLink videos hosted on Screencast.com?A: To keep videos running smoothly for any Flash-enabled browser, even when thousands of users are using Sketchpad LessonLink, Key Curriculum Press uses a safe, private video-hosting service called Screencast. No extra downloads are required. Q: I'm a teacher using the Safari browser; why does nothing happen when I click on the links within an activity for Print Overview, Display Activities Notes, or Display Student Worksheet?A: This is an issue with pop-up blockers in the Safari browser. We updated Sketchpad LessonLink so that this will not be an issue for other browsers, but unfortunately Safari still interprets these links as pop-ups. To correct this issue, go to the Safari menu (or the Edit menu on a PC) and choose Block Pop-Up Windows to uncheck that option. You should now be able to access all links within an activity. If you would prefer to keep pop-ups blocked while you are using Sketchpad LessonLink, we recommend using a different browser (e.g. Firefox). Professional DevelopmentQ: What materials do I need for an online course?A: All you need is a computer with Internet access (see complete System Requirements for details) and either Fathom» Dynamic Data or The Geometer's Sketchpad® software. You can purchase a Single-User Edition of the software at a 10% discount when you register for the course. Q: How are the online courses structured?A: Each course is led by a trained moderator who provides support throughout the course and holds a weekly online chat. The course is divided into six weeklong units. Participants have flexibility within each week but are expected to begin and complete the activities during the assigned week. We do understand that personal circumstances arise, and the course was developed to be flexible for participants. You are not penalized if you turn assignments in late or early. For example, if you were going out of town and unable to complete assignments during the allotted time, you would only need to inform the moderator. A seventh week is scheduled to give you a chance to complete any assignments that you weren't able to turn in during the first six weeks. Still, it is highly advised that you complete the course in order and in a timely manner. Q: How much time will I need for an online course each week?A: Most participants say they spend 5–10 hours on coursework each week. Q: How can I earn academic credit for an online course?A: With a grade of C- or higher, you can earn two semester professional-level units in continued education through the UC Berkeley Extension Program for an additional charge of $220. Please be aware, this is not graduate-level credit. When the course officially begins, the course moderator will send you information about how to sign up for academic credit. Q: Does my district accept your academic credit?A: You will need to check with your district/school to see if our course fulfills their requirements. Providing your district/school with the course syllabi may be helpful:
Q: Will I receive a grade in an online course?A: Yes, everyone receives a grade. If you take the course for academic credit or require a certificate of completion, you will need to pass the course with a C- or higher. If you do not sign up for academic credit or do not require a certificate of completion, your grade is not reported to anyone. Please inform the course moderator if this is the case. Q: If I'm going to take both Teaching Algebra with The Geometer's Sketchpad and Teaching Geometry with The Geometer's Sketchpad, which should I take first?A: If you are planning to take both, we recommend that you begin with the Geometry course because it includes guided Sketchpad tours and serves as a better introduction to Sketchpad. Q: Can I withdraw from an online course?A: If you withdraw from a course before or during the first week of instruction, you can make up the course at no additional cost for one year following the original course start date. If you do not use your credit during this time or if you withdraw after the first week of a course, your tuition is forfeited. For more information or to withdraw from your course, please email the Online Course Administrator at abala@keypress.com. When you are ready to make up the course, please contact the Online Course Administrator; you do not need to re-register. Q: How can I access online materials from an on-site course or workshop I attended?A: To access your professional development materials, go to the URL found in your Workshop or Course Guide. Q: I've found a problem with a question in The Key to Tracker.
